Another Spirited Performance See's The Cooks Beat Higher Grade Opposition

Tuesday evening saw the visit of Zamaretto Central side Bedworth United to Compton Park in our penultimate pre-season game leading up to the start of the 2010/11 season.

New manager Andy Marks had a few selection headaches ahead of this game as he was missing upwards of 7 players unavailable through injury but his makeshift side including a South African trialist worked wonders in an impressive 1-0 win over Bedworth United.

After some early Bedworth pressure the Cooks slowly got into the game and started to get behind the Bedworth backline. It wasn't long before the pace of Blackwood caused problems for the back four of Bedworth and he was hauled down for a spot kick, which on form frontman Alfie Taylor dispatched with some force to send the Cooks into a well deserved first half lead.

Further chances fell to Blackwood, Karl Bates and Wes Emery before half time but the score remained 1-0 to the Cooks.

The second half saw Bedworth again start the half brightly but hardly make our goal keeper make a save in the 90 minutes. Another improved performance from the Cooks although Brackley will prove much tougher opposition this Saturday at Compton Park.

Cooks Power Past Langford

A new look Cogenhoe outfit powered to a 4-1 home win over Langford on Saturday.

New manager Andy Marks fielded a strong looking starting XI as he looked to build on our midweek victory over Whitworths. Although his preparations were hampered by midfielder Scott Goodacre not making it through the warm up and Jamie Wright & a trialist both pulling up injured after only 5 minutes.

None the less the Cooks made their attacking intent by starting with a 4-3-3 formation with Karl Bates, Alfie Taylor & Damon Herbert starting up top for the Cooks, and that paid dividends as all three of the forwards chipped in with goals in a comfortable victory for Andy Marks men.

Karl Bates opened the scoring for the Cooks with a 25 yard volley that thundered past the Langford keeper early on and then Damon Herbert doubled the lead with a volley of his own from inside the area. Bates then made it 3-0 following a corner from the left and Alfie Taylor continued his goal scoring touch in front of goal in the second half.

George McClellan played extremely well again in goal saving a well struck spot kick follow a dubiously awarded penalty decision late on.

All in all it was a good work out for the Cooks who now entertain higher opposition in their final two pre-season friendlies, Tuesday (27th July) see's the Cooks face Zamaretto Midlands side Bedworth United in a 7.45pm kick off and on Saturday (31st July) the Cooks face Zamaretto Premier Brackley Town again here at Compton Park with a 3.00pm kick off.

Cogenhoe United have unveiled Andy Marks as their new manager. The 28 year old becomes the youngest boss in the Premier Division. Nonetheless he has plenty of managerial experience under his belt already, joining the Cooks after three years at the helm of ON Chenecks who he led to their first ever Northants Junior Cup triumph last year along with back to back top four finishes in Division One.

Club chairman Derek Wright commented "Andy made a big impression with the club in an interview three years ago when he applied for the manager's position when Darren Collins was appointed. We asked him to go and get some experience and come and see us again and true to his word he was one of the first to apply for the position. Andy's local knowledge of players is second to none and he has tremendous enthusiasm for the game. We are delighted at our capture. Andy knows he is joining a very well run club and is excited at being given the chance to make the step up at Cogenhoe, a club he has long held ambitions to manage."

Cooks Manager Departs

Cogenhoe United Football Club have lost the services of manager Darren Collins just four weeks from the start of the 2010/11 season.

Darren has accepted the offer to join Southern League Premier side Brackley Town as assistant to former Rushden & Diamond's teammate John Brady. A step up two tiers to the ambitious Zammaretto Premier Division outfit was an offer too good to refuse. The parting has been perfectly amicable and Cogenhoe wish Darren their best wishes for the future, Darren will be returning to Compton Park in three weeks time for an arranged pre season match.

The Cooks are now in search of a permanent replacement for Collins and suitable applicants should make applications to Chairman Derek Wright on 07730488160 as soon as possible, the Cooks are looking to appoint their new manager by the weekend.
